Background of BINDU

Bindu Nari Unnayan Sangathan is a non-profit, youth led feminist organization, started it’s journey by a group of primary school-going child environmental activists in 1995. At such a very young age, this girls’ group started their activism against polythene bag usage for sustainable environment building. Till 1995 to 2007, this group of young girls has continued their activism through different social and environmental activities like tree plantation, child marriage, dowry, culture event and other contemporary issues. in 2007, when the devastating super cyclone Sidr hit Satkhira and caused immense destruction, it started humanitarian response and afterward it started DRR and climate change programme in south western coastal areas of Bangladesh. Bindu Nari Unnayan Sangathan is prode for their 18 years of experience in humanitarian response and disaster management. In 2014 Kaliganj Upazila is the first child marriage-free Upazila in Bangladesh. The youth group had directly contributed to stopping early marriages with the local government.

However, in 2016 this women group felt the necessity to work as a formal organization, and Founded “Bindu Nari Unnayan Sangathan”. It always believed on inclusion and no one behind approach and that’s why the leadership and decision-making position of Bindu includes diverse group of women like differently able women, indigenous, ethnic, minority, LGBTQ, migrant, young women and climate-vulnerable young women.

Now, Bindu is working for women empowerment, environmental sustainability, climate change and development, youth empowerment, disaster risk management, good health, Democracy and Human Rights, Peace and Conflict, good governance and so on. BINDU fights against patriarchy and the structural causes behind injustice and inequality.  Through it’s long-standing  commitment, dedication and impactful actions, Bindu has emerged as a prominent and influential feminist organization not only within the coastal region but also across Bangladesh.

Vision

Justice for all.

Mission

To establish a just society where every individual is afforded equal opportunities, lives with dignity, and experiences a harmonious coexistence between the environment and humanity.

Goal

To create a world where all people can thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances by promoting equality, cohesion, good governance, preserving the environment, and fostering a sense of mutual respect.

Purpose of the Organization

The purpose of BINDU Nari Unnayan Sangathan is to promote gender equality, social justice, and human rights by empowering women, youth, and marginalized communities. As a youth-led feminist organization, BINDU works to build inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities through grassroots leadership, access to essential services, and the promotion of climate justice, peace, and democratic values. BINDU envisions a just society where all individuals—regardless of gender, identity, or background—can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunity.

Mandate of the Organization

BINDU Nari Unnayan Sangathan has a mandate to promote gender justice, human rights, and social and environmental justice for all, with a particular focus on women, youth, children, and marginalized communities. This mandate is grounded in the principles of human rights, sustainable development, humanitarian values, and climate justice, with the goal of ensuring that no one is left behind.

In the climate-vulnerable communities where we work, we focus on those often left behind by social and economic progress. Even in areas with available resources, women, youth, and children due to their identity or location frequently lack access to the opportunities, protections, and rights to which they are entitled.

We hold governments, institutions, and stakeholders accountable to their commitments to human rights, equality, and environmental sustainability, while supporting communities in claiming these rights. Through advocacy, grassroots leadership, capacity-building, humanitarian response, and evidence-based initiatives, BINDU strives to build inclusive, resilient, and sustainable societies, promote peace and democracy, and advance climate justice for present and future generations.
